Commencement 2020 postponement FAQs

Here are answers to many of the questions we have received from the Class of 2020 about Commencement. If you do not see an answer to your question here, please contact us: commencement@sonoma.edu, (707) 664-2018.

 

When will I receive my diploma?

Sonoma State University will mail diplomas in their covers from the end of June through August.  Please check that we have your correct mailing address and name in our files.

Are the Commencement and other related ceremonies canceled?

No, President Sakaki announced on March 19, 2020, that SSU will postpone Spring 2020 Commencement and cultural/affinity celebrations until it is safe to celebrate our graduates.

Is there a later date selected for Commencement?

At this time, no future dates have been selected. We are following local, state and national guidelines and will continue to assess our Commencement plans and timeline.

How much notice will you provide prior to Commencement?

We will work to notify students with as much notice as possible.
 

Can I still purchase regalia and announcements?

When a date is determined, students will be able to purchase regalia and non-personalized announcements from the University Store.  If you would like to purchase these items in advance of the postponed commencement date, you can do so by visiting the Herff Jones website.

Can I still purchase personalized announcements and other graduation mementos?

Please contact Herff Jones customer service team at 1-800-837-4235 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. -5 p.m. EST) or visit the Herff Jones website.

Can I get a refund for my regalia?

SSU partners with Herff Jones to provide academic regalia rental and other graduation mementos. If you already ordered your cap and gown for Commencement, please visit the Herff Jones Collegiate Regalia Return page or contact Herff Jones customer service team at 1-800-837-4235 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. -5 p.m. EST) to request a refund.
